Titus’s goals as a company are to continue innovation in air distribution and the incorporation of green and passive techniques in conventional HVAC systems. The headquarters will provide an educational space, sales department, research lab and community spaces. Several functions have been lifted above the ground in a floating mat allowing for air flow both above and below the building providing natural ventilation and green space. To develop the community around the site, capitalization of infrastructure such as a freeway exit and adjacent track stop will bring people and the green space will allow them to interact with it. Operable windows on the perimeter of the building and interior light courtyards located throughout the mat allow for natural airflow and sunlight. This greatly reduces the reliance on mechanical systems while highlighting the company’s integration with passive strategies.
Housing Unit Charrette
An integral part of the project was the inclusion of several housing units for the specialized works as well as visiting teachers and researchers. The housing had to both be integrated into the design as well as be a comfortable living space rather than a factory. The units are been aggregated together in increased interaction between the inhabitants. The inclusion of balconies and green space also help facilitate this interaction. By splitting units into to stories it also allows for natural ventilation and lighting in each unit.
