The Endeavour exhibit is an opportunity for the California Science Center. Endeavour will be the only shuttle, of the five publicly displayed, on the West Coast. In Los Angeles the shuttle is exposed to a large range of people, from tourists to one of the 15 million residents. This influx of people could also benefit the surrounding museums but that will require the building both highlight the Endeavour while creating a strong connection with its context. Connections are made through designed viewpoints, formed through manipulations of elevations and distances, that focusing on significant areas of the shuttle. The museum is connected to the site by relating the form and program of different floors to different buildings in Exposition Park. Showing this the cockpit is part of the Human Systems exhibit and floor plate’s direction and orientation relates to the African American Museum, incorporating everything through both form and function.
