The Flying Objects public art project began ten years ago as a way to weave art into the fabric of Salt Lake City’s downtown. Since its inception, five series of Flying Objects have been accomplished, each series being installed for a period of 2 to 2½ years. Emergence was designed for the 4th iteration of the program.

Emergence is the process through which complex process and pattern develop from smaller and simpler parts. Unique hexagonal units, with individual dimensions determined by a set of mathematical relationships, allow for complex forms to emerge. Becoming a physical representation of this process.
